FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
WHAT IF YOU NEVER HEARD YOUR MOTHER'S VOICE AGAIN?
WHAT IF YOU HAD NO TIME LEFT TO TELL YOU MOTHER HOW YOU FELT?
DEAR MOM, I'VE ALWAYS WANTED YOU TO KNOW
Daughters Share Letters from the Heart
by Lisa R. Delman
When a massive heart attack left her mother on the brink of death,
Lisa R. Delman turned to letter writing as a form of release.
Through letters addressed to her mother, Lisa released pent up
emotions, but also gained peace and an acceptance of her mother's
impending death. Miraculously, her mother recovered. Lisa went on to
establish the Letters from the Heart Project™ in 2002, which
encourages daughters all over the world to articulate their emotions
towards their mothers (alive or passed on) on paper. An invitation
for women to open their hearts through letter writing, the Project
has received nearly one thousand letters from around the world.
In DEAR MOM, I'VE ALWAYS WANTED YOU TO KNOW: Daughters Share Letters
from the Heart (Perigee Hardcover; April 2005; $16.95), Lisa Delman
presents a collection of these compelling letters. In their own
words, daughters share the feelings they have kept inside for years,
expressing emotions from loss to unconditional love, from anger to
forgiveness, from guilt to gratitude. The book gives readers an
opportunity to reconnect with their own mother through the
experiences of other women - to release past hurts, restore a sense
of peace, and honor this most important of relationships.
In DEAR MOM, I'VE ALWAYS WANTED YOU TO KNOW, Delman presents readers
with remarkable stories: " Lois's mother had often communicated to
her daughter her wish never to be placed in a nursing home. Lois's
letter to her mother helps her ease her guilt for not adhering to
her mother's promise she had made to her mother.
- Jette Stephens writes a letter to her dying mother, thanking
her for being a great mother, but expressing anger at her for
ignoring the lump in her breast for several years. "How could you
deny it when breast cancer awareness is always in your face?"
Jette was able to release pent-up emotion and find peace.
- Eve Nicholas-a woman who could not be in the same room with
her mother without arguing-suddenly reconciles with her mother
after her mother is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Eve's
relationship with her mother was transformed two weeks prior to
her mother's passing, after writing her mother a letter.
What relationship is at once so fulfilling - and so frustrating -
as the one between mother and daughter? The mother-daughter
relationship is a bond that forges a woman's sense of self. In
celebration of that special love, DEAR MOM, I'VE ALWAYS WANTED YOU
TO KNOW offers daughters a chance to reflect, to find peace, and to
honor the most important relationship of their lives.
