SISTER CITIES
by Colette
Freedman - EAST COAST PREMIERE
February 22 -
March 11, 2007
Four estranged
sisters with different personalities, different lifestyles, and
different fathers reunite in their family home to unravel the
mystery surrounding their mother's apparent suicide. Their mother,
artistic and self-indulgent, married four different men and named
her daughters after the location of their births. This dark comedy
tackles the universal themes of personal responsibility, duty and
loyalty to family, sibling rivalry, and what constitutes a rewarding
life.
SHILOH RULES
by Doris Baizley
- Southeastern Premiere
May 3 - 20, 2007
Competition!
It’s the seed of this new comedy that finds 6 women engaged in a
reenactment of a bloody Civil War battle. As they compete for the
prize of "best female reenactor" the women dredge up century-old
hatred, with a modern red state versus blue state twist. Thrown
into the mix of these women acting out Northerners battling
Southerners, is a peddler, selling phony reenactment memorabilia
struggling with neutrality amid the petty, humorous regional
disagreements. The women are reigned in by an African American park
ranger the Union tries to recruit to their side.
REAL WOMEN HAVE
CURVES
by Josefina
Lopez - SOUTHEAST PREMIERE
August 9 - 26,
2007
Set in a tiny
sewing factory in East L.A., this is the outrageously funny story of
five full-figured Mexican-American women who are racing to meet
nearly impossible deadlines in order to keep their tiny factory from
going under. And while they work, hiding from the INS, they talk -
about their husbands, and lovers, their children, and their dreams
for the future. The story is told from the point of view of Ana,
the youngest, who dreams of escaping out of the barrio, going off to
college and becoming a famous writer.
UNCOMMON WOMEN
AND OTHERS
by Wendy
Wasserstein - A memorial tribute
October 25 -
November 11, 2007
This
affecting, funny and perceptive play delves into the lives, loves
and aspirations of a group of seniors at a prestigious Eastern
women's college. This witty, and insightful play begins with a
reunion of five classmates, comparing their lives since leaving
school. In a series of flashbacks we witness their college days
peeking into the many moments of humor, cynicism, and personal
desires.
